The “Metaverse” wave is rising, virtual reality is constantly innovating, wearable devices are combined with personal life applications, and they have officially entered our private space and public domain, collecting a large amount of personal biological characteristics and behavioral data. Our privacy rights are being violated silently.
The data obtained by the Metaverse is different from the definition of personal data in current regulations. Can the law regulate the behavior of the Metaverse world? When the development of technology is far faster than that of regulatory agencies, how can we learn from advanced technology and experience to protect the “digital human rights” of the Taiwanese people?
This forum features Liao Yuan-hao, Associate Professor of the Department of Law, National Chengchi University; Lu Hsin-ko, Director-General, Bureau of Information Technology, Taipei City Government; Vincent Shih, Global Assistant General Counsel of Microsoft, General Manager of Public and Legal Affairs Department of Microsoft Taiwan; and Lee Po-feng, chairman of the Open Culture Foundation; to discuss the balance between technology and human rights privacy protection in the development of the Metaverse from the perspectives of law, public departments, enterprises, and civic groups.
